WEARABLE ARTS

Wow! I was so impressed with everyone's effort this week in creating their Wearable Art outfits. We had to use CREATIVITY and show TEAMWORK, DETERMINATION, PATIENCE, COOPERATION and PERSISTENCE - lots of our school values!

 

I thought everyone looked amazing for our show and did a great job displaying their outfits confidently.

 

Clever Readers!

In Room 4, we have been working on using good reading comprehension strategies. Today Escher, Ben and Regan read the story Rumpelstiltskin. They were learning to SUMMARIZE the story so after they read the story, they completed a story pyramid. They had to work together and share their ideas. They worked really hard on their activity. Well done boys!

Newspaper Clothes

Room 4 has been learning about the 3 Rs - not the school ones but the 3 Recycling Rs!

 This afternoon we did an activity that RE-USED some newspaper. We had to make some clothes out of newspaper. Check out some of our great outfits!

HAPPY GRANDPARENTS DAY!

Today it is Grandparents Day where we celebrate all our wonderful grandparents. We had lots of grandparents come and visit us at school this afternoon and we enjoyed showing them all the great work we do in Room 4.

Holiday Letters

This week we have been sharing our holiday news with each other. For writing, we wrote a letter to a friend about our holiday and then published it. Have a read of some of the awesome letters! The rest are on our Writing Wall in the classroom.

PLAYS!

Last week, Room 4 did some plays for reading. We had to use good expression, get into our characters, use a loud clear voice and work together as part of a group.
On Thursday each group performed their play. We were all very entertained!

SPACE POSTERS!

Wow, I have been so impressed with everyone's effort they have put in to our space posters over the last two weeks.

First, we had to research a planet, the moon or sun at home. Some people found HEAPS of information!
Then, we had to work with a partner to present our research on a poster.
Our poster had to include ...

• lots of interesting facts
• a big, fancy title that stands out
• some photos or pictures

We also had to work well as a team with our partner.

ASB Maths Challenge

 

Hey everyone!

Remember for the next 2 days - Wednesday and Thursday, the ASB Maths Challenge is on. You can get to the challenge through Mathletics. There are heaps of cool prizes to be won and you get to practise your maths at the same time! Have fun and try your best!

The Sun, Earth and Moon

In Room 4 yesterday we did an experiment to show how the Earth and Moon spin around. We used a hoop to show the Sun. The basketball was Earth which orbited on its axis to get night and day as well as orbited around the Sun over a year. The Moon orbited around Earth every month.

Book Character Dress Up Day!

Today we came to school dressed as our favourite book character. In Room 4 we had Captain Hook, Strawberry Shortcake, Blueberry Muffin, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Rosie the Koala, Jason the Catnapper, Old MacDonald, Hosea Gear the All Black, Alice the Horse Rider, a Rapper, a Singer, a Fairy, Barnaby Bennett, Ninjago, Transformer Bumblebee, a couple of Cinderellas and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Take a look at our awesome costumes!

Patterns

Today in Room 4 we used different types of equipment to make repeating patterns. We learned that you can change the COLOUR, SHAPE and SIZE to make a patttern.

 

Library Day

Today we went to the library in Room 4, just like we do every Friday. We really enjoy sitting on the couches, cushions and seats in the library while we read all the great books in there. Sometimes we like to read on our own and sometimes we like to read with a buddy.

Heating and Cooling

We have been doing some science in Room 4 all to do with Heating and Cooling. We have seen what happens when we boil water and this afternoon we did an experiment with ice cubes.
